Lavender

Lavandula angustifolia

A Mediterranean shrub with narrow, greyish leaves and lilac spikes that fill with bees in high summer. Its name is often linked to the Latin lavare, “to wash”, for its traditional use in baths and linen.

It likes sun, poor soil and little water, and flowers in high summer.

Its scent is clean and floral, fresh and slightly sweet, like linen dried in the sun. It lingers long after the flowers dry.
